Michael Cooper was an outstanding sixth man and player on the Los Angeles Lakers championship basketball teams in the 1980's.  He was a three point sharpshooter who routinely came into games and could shoot the three point shot with incredible accuracy.  He was a key factor in helping the Lakers score many points during each outing in the showtime era.

His basketball cards are quite affordable as well.  He has a 1980-81 Topps Basketball rookie card that has a book value of $1.50.   He also is part of Los Angeles Lakers team sets in 1983-84, 1984-85 and 1985-86 Star Company.  His 1983-84 Star Company card is short printed and is a rare find and has a book value of $12.  James Worthy has a rookie card in that set as does Byron Scott and Kurt Rambis.  Of course, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are in the set as well.  It is a compelling value for a basketball card collector which I certainly am.  Growing up watching L.A. Laker games fuels that excitement for the cards of players like Michael Cooper. 

He had a great playing career and will be remembered as a key member of the reserves that helped the championship team.  He was often the first player off of the bench in games.  Looking back on their team, it was a deep team as some players even mentioned in this article are not as well remembered as Magic and Kareem.  There were only 12 players on the team, yet they routinely could go with about 8 players per game consistently.
