Sports insert card values are best understood by seeing what the price is if you were to buy the cards right now, or how much you could receive in cash were you to sell them immediately. Insert cards come from all sports cards, though the major four sports are baseball, basketball, football, and hockey. Insert cards originated in packs long ago and they are made up of cards that are not part of the regular set for that year's cards. For instance, if Topps has a baseball card set that has 792 cards in the baseball card regular set, and various other cards that are included in packs, those other cards are inserts. They can be stickers, game worn jersey cards, coin cards, autographs, serial numbered cards, or a variety of many different things including redemptions that you can mail in or redeem online for a spectacular card such as a rare autograph of the President of the United States of America.
Modern day sports insert cards are made up of serial numbered rare cards, and some can be true and authentic one of ones where only one exists in the world. Much more common in packs currently are autographs and game worn jersey cards of your favorite current and retired superstar players. It is commonplace for high end packs to contain one or more autographed and/or jersey card in each pack. Collectors have demanded that cards be high end and of high quality, and cards have gotten very nice in terms of quality and value. Some from Topps even contain authentic pieces of gold medallions on them made of true 14 karat gold (Topps Treasury basketball cards).
All sports cards, including insert cards, are worth what someone will pay you for them. There are price guides and lists and listings online that you can see a suggested price for your cards though, and many of those can be found throughout these pages here at the site, as well as illustrative pictures of hockey jersey insert cards listed below.
Pictured below as examples of game worn jersey cards from hockey are an Alexei Yashin 2001 Crown Royale game worn jersey card serial numbered to a limited number, as well as a serial numbered Chris Osgood Detroit Red Wings (not in that card though as he was on the St. Louis Blues) game worn jersey card.
