125,000 gorillas were found in the Republic of Congo in Africa according to reports today. In my opinion, this is an extraordinary event that is very important to our environment and an opportunity for us to value the creatures that inhabit our earth. For years, the gorillas have been endangered and it is comforting to know that there are more of them than there were thought to be before.
Sometimes it is easy to lose sight of simple things such as the population of gorillas in our fast paced and stressful world. We all should take a moment to enjoy the gorillas and be happy that they are around. In their struggles to avoid extinction, researchers have been shown on television keeping up with their activities. I am sure that they will have a lot more to be able to watch now, and it will be interesting to see how the species' characterization changes now that we have these new facts and new friends.
As we look toward the Olympics starting on August 8, 2008, perhaps the gorillas can offer the world an opportunity to appreciate the surroundings.
