There are three main sets in 1986 Fleer sports cards. The most valuable is 1986-87 Fleer basketball cards with the Michael Jordan rookie card that is one of the most famous and valuable cards in existence today. It is even more valuable in gem mint condition when graded by PSA, BGS, SGC, GAI or an equivalent. There is also 1986 Fleer baseball and 1986 Fleer Baseball Update which include the Jose Canseco rookie in the main set and Barry Bonds' XRC in the update set. First let's look at 1986-87 Fleer basketball.
This is one of the best if not the best basketball set ever produced. It includes a Michael Jordan rookie card among all of the other hall of fame rookie cards. It is very highly valued and highly sought after. If you look around enough, you can find unopened wax packs and boxes and they bring top dollar, much more than any unopened box from any year in the 1980's. Included are many rookie cards with names like Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars and many more. There are only 132 cards in the set and there are probably 20 cards that are highly valued if not more. If you had an unopened wax box (first off congratulate yourself because it is worth thousands of dollars) you could open the packs and probably get 3 or more Michael Jordan rookie cards. There are also sticker cards in the pack that come one per pack and there are 12 in the set. Michael Jordan has a sticker in there as well that has a book value of over $100. This set has an extremely high book value with the Michael Jordan being close to $1,000 in ungraded near mint to mint condition. Watch out for counterfeits though because there are a lot of them. Buy from a reputable seller when purchasing them (search around on Google if you want to learn more about the cards). These cards are highly valuable and consistently demand top dollar when sold.

If you have these cards in your collection, they are great to own. You can either save them for the future or you can sell them if you want as they are already very highly valued. Doing an ebay search can alert you to the value of them. (There is an ebay widget on the main page of our site) Good luck in your card collections and if you have any 1986-87 Fleer cards that you did not realize you had, please do some research to find out their value before you trade or sell them without knowing how valuable they are.
Here is a quick rundown of the key rookie cards in 1986 Fleer Baseball and 1986 Fleer update. Barry Bonds in the update set is the most valuable rookie card in the set. In the regular set, there is a Jose Canseco rookie, Kal Daniels rookie, Paul O'Neill rookie, Cecil Fielder rookie, Andres Galarraga rookie and Benito Santiago rookie along with a second year card of Roger Clemens. Unopened wax boxes can be had for around $40, these are still affordable and a decent investment. The update set will run you about $20 on Ebay and is a small set, and its value is due in large part to the Barry Bonds rookie card.
