1953 topps baseball cards will be discussed here.  Mickey Mantle's 1953 Topps second year card (techinically it is a third year card but some people still consider his 1952 Topps card to be a rookie even though he had a 1951 Bowman rookie) is highly sought after.  There is also a card of Jackie Robinson, #1 in the set, and many other great hall of fame baseball cards.  Satchell Paige has a card in here and well as Jim Gilliam who has a rookie card in this set.  The set has a bunch of great stars, superstars and hall of famers and is packed with value.  It is a great set to try for a complete set of and also a great one to get single cards of.  It is difficult to get a high grade set.  The Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays cards are the most valuable, with many others right up there almost and I would certainly recommend this as a great vintage card group.  There is another article that I wrote for these cards and it is here - 1953 Topps

Every card in this set is valuable, as commons even are worth upwards of $20 each, and even more if in gradable condition. It is similar in that regard to the 1952 Topps set although it is not as valuable as that set. This page is going to highlight some of my favorite baseball cards.

1953 Topps baseball Jackie Robinson #1 in the set - it is double printed but that does not detract from its collectibility.  It compares nicely to the Andy Pafko #1 in 1952 Topps, though that card is worth so much because of its rarity and collectibility, whereas Jackie Robinson was a far better player and one of the all-time greats

Mickey Mantle #82 - what can be said about this card other than it is a great valuable vintage baseball card - worth several thousands of dollars in high graded condition from card graders such as BVG, PSA, and SGC

Satchel Paige is #220 in the set and the card is an uncorrected error - what a great card this is

Willie Mays #244 - great card and also is similar to the Mickey Mantle in that his card is technically a third year card, though considered a second year or just as good.  It is worth almost as much in the price guide as Mickey Mantle's is

#258 Jim Gilliam rookie card - wow!  nice rookie card here with a great  book value

#263 Johnny Podres rookie card- nice rookie here

#280 Milt Bolling rookie

There are other great cards such as #76 Pee Wee Reese, and the card is worth a lot, especially in high graded condition - the former Dodger great is a great card to have from this set.

If you are trying to complete the set, there are many high grade commons available widely on Ebay when offered.  Examples of what I see currently are:

DUANE PILLETTE 1953 TOPPS PSA 6 #269 BROWNS 280

DOM DIMAGGIO 1953 TOPPS PSA 6 #149 RED SOX 169

GIL COAN 1953 TOPPS PSA 6 #133 SENATORS 149

1953 Topps #100 Bill Miller Yankees PSA 4

I have some of these cards in my collection, though their condition is about poor condition.  They are more keepsakes to have cards from this year's set, but I do notice that currently on Ebay, a lot of cards are affordable as well as these.  They are great to have in your set because compared to 1952 Topps cards, the 1953 cards are just as rare pretty much, and contain some great players, but the values are lower in contrast.  The value is still high for them as well as the demand, but if you wanted to get cards of the superstars who are not rookies, they may prove to be a great investment in years to come, especially given their current values.

Listed below are some of the cards that are currently for sale on Ebay.
